Reporter Şilan Aras working for the Fırat News Agency lost his life in the attacks the Iranian army is conducting in the Kandil region of Kurdistan.
Şilan Aras was on duty to study the rampant suicides in this Kurdish region while the Iranian soldiers shot him.
The reporter had worked previously for another Kurdish media organization, Mesopotamia News Agency before transferring to Fırat. He had been a correspondent for Firat for Armenian affairs. He reported from Armenia for three years before moving to Southern Kurdistan. He had been on this assignment for two years.
Studies on Women’s Suicides.
Şilan Aras, born 1974 in Viranşehir town of Urfa had been concentrating his reporting on the rampant women’s suicides in the region. To gather more information he had been in Urmiye and Mahabad towns for the last three weeks. He was shot on site by the Iranian army units.
His friends and co-workers have condemned the killing by Tahran government.
