Before the rally to be held with the March 8 Women’s Platform call, various institutions turned many parts of Kadıköy into a protest area. The rally started with the gathering of the corteges that reached Kadıköy Pier. The Great Women’s Gathering continued with all its enthusiasm and slogans. In the press release, the representatives of the Sputnik Strike, University Women, Mothers for Peace, Feminist Solidarity for Disaster, and Saturday Mothers spoke. Later, they chanted, “Long live women’s solidarity.”
Those who marched in front of Kadıköy Çarşı bus stops also entered the Docks. The protest started when all the marching columns arrived at the Pier Square. Organizations took part behind the banner of the March 8 Women’s Platform that read, “We have a struggle against poverty, violence, exploitation, and war!”
While the organizations were announced and entered the area with their particular chants, the government officials kept the University Feminist Collective waiting at the entrance due to the rainbow colors on the banner. On the other hand, the banners of Tevgera Jinen Azad (TJA-Free Women’s Movement) were confiscated, and the officials tried to silence their slogans. All the participants immediately adopted their slogans and echoed them in a booming voice in the arena.
With the slogan “We are not silent, we are not afraid, we do not obey,” the rally began with all its enthusiasm.
In the press release, the representatives from organizations such as the Sputnik strike, University Women, Mothers for Peace, Feminist Solidarity for Disaster, and Saturday Mothers took turns to speak.
The statement also included the reactions against the genocide in Palestine. The experiences of the LGBTI+ communities were also voiced.
Afterward, they chanted, “Long live women’s solidarity.” After the communal folk dancing, the rally ended.
