Access to the Freedom of Expression Association’s page, where the announcements about news and websites that are blocked under the EngelliWeb project have been blocked by the Turkish Criminal Court in Rize province.
In the decision of the Rize Criminal Magistrate’s Office dated March 20 and numbered 2023/1003, “violation of personal rights” was cited as the reason for the access block.
In the announcement made on the association’s social media accounts, it was stated that “The Blocked Web page of the Freedom of Expression Association (@ifadeorgtr) with more than 500 access block announcements was completely blocked by the decision of the Rize Criminal Magistrate dated March 20, 2023, and numbered 2023/1003 on the grounds of violation of personal rights.”
In his statement on the subject, Information Law Expert Prof. Dr. Yaman Akdeniz said, “The Freedom of Expression Association’s EngelliWeb pages, which consist of 127 pages and contain more than 500 access block decisions of the government, have been blocked from access by a “super” judge in Rize without even looking at their content. We will never let this issue slide.”
