Following the sectarian assault at the cemetery in Adıyaman, an attempt was made to attack the CHP opposition leader during a visit to a shrine.
On the first day of the Ramadan holiday, after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leading opposition party leader in the upcoming elections on May 14th, was targeted with sectarian insults while he was reciting prayers at the cemetery where those who lost their lives in the earthquake were located, a group attacked CHP, the opposition Republican People’s Party, members during a visit to a tomb in Adıyaman.
The incident took place after Kılıçdaroğlu visited a religious shrine. During the delegation’s exit from the tomb, a person tried to get close to Kılıçdaroğlu and shouted, “We don’t want you. You don’t come here. You’re not the man who belongs here.” Some people in the area tried to attack Kılıçdaroğlu’s bodyguards.
Following the attack, a planned meeting between Kılıçdaroğlu and Sırrı Süreyya Önder was cancelled.
