The workers at Vip Textile plant protested the beating and firing of a fellow worker by the plant bosses.
The workers gathered in front of the plant before starting the morning shift and protested the attack of one of the owners against their fellow worker, Ali Güney, who was beaten for having a walkman radio. “The latest event is the straw that broke the camel’s back,” said Mrs. Ayşe Fidan, who spoke for the workers and added that the assaults against the workers had been going on and the owners and their goons had beaten up the workers in past. She said they condemned the attack and continued, “We are proud workers here, and we strongly condemn the brutal attack. We are warning the owners and their men: You can not hit or insult the workers here. We are not slaves, we are laborers.”
Workers carried banners reading, “I want my rights; I don’t want being beaten up!”
The attorney for the assaulted worker, Ali Güney, said Ali went to the local police station and complained about the attack and as a result, he was also fired.
