Woman Workers Organizations, including the Socialist Platform of the Oppressed, Association of Woman Workers, Association of Socialist Youth, Democratic Party of Bursa, The Partisan and Democratic Rights Platform, who are preparing for the International Woman Workers Day on March 8 held a protest rally and memorial for the five woman workers who died in a textile plant fire in Bursa.
The protesters gathered in front of the Social Security Services Headquarters, read a press release and left a black wreath at its door.
The press statement said, “On December 29, 2005, at midnight, five woman workers, our friends, were burned to death at Özay Tekstil workplace. This is not God’s will, this is not fate, but this is murder. The statement called on all woman workers to get organized for struggle, “which is the only way to salvation from inequality, exploitation and being treated as second class humans.”
The statement pointed out those who are responsible for the workplace murder. “Capitalism, the workplace owners, the managers of the worksite, the Ministry of Health which oversees the Social Security Services that has permitted this unsafe work place to operate, the Ministry of Labor over the Regional Labor Authority and the Ministry of Industry which issues the commercial licenses are all accountable.”
After the press statement was read, the protesters went to Yaylacık where the plant is located and placed red carnations in memory of the five workers and chanted slogans.
