Evrim Clothes manufacturing plant workers gathered to read their press release in front of Evrim Clothes owner’s home, but they were arrested.
After 4 days of resistance in front of the plant, the workers and the Tekstil Sen Union’s officials tried to read a press release demanding the payment of back dues in front of the owner’s home. Attacking the crowd, the police indiscriminately arrested the workers. The arrested 14 workers, including the Tekstil Sen General Manager Ayşe Yumli Yeter are being detained at the Sakıp Sabancı Beylerbeyi police station.
Although the workers have come close to a victorious final in the legal battle against the owners of the plant, the owner of Evrim Clothes manufacturing plant said, “I have tax and insurance payments to make. If I have any money left, I may pay your back dues.” This prompted the workers who have been engaged in this legal battle for more than a year into action.
The Tekstil Sen Union protested the attack in its statement where it is said, “We are declaring that we will further our class struggle against the owners of Evrim Clothes in particular, and against all capitalist class in general. We demand the immediate release of all Evrim workers and our General Manager Ayşe Yumli Yeter. We are calling on the public to take notice of our struggle.”
