PIRHA reporter and journalist Diren Keser was taken into custody from his home after his prison sentence was approved in the case where he was tried for his news and social media posts, and then he was taken to Tarsus Prison
PIRHA Mersin Correspondent Journalist Diren Keser was detained and arrested as a result of a police raid on his home in 2019.
At the hearing held on December 26, 2017, Keser’s sentence was upheld after he was sentenced to 21 months in prison. Police officers arrived at his home this evening and took Keser into custody. Keser’s lawyer stated that the detention of the police without notification was contrary to the principle of fair dealing, and said, “It is not in accordance with the law to detain him in this way, when prior notice should be given for the amount of punishment, which is normally less than 5 years.” Keser’s lawyer pointed out that the final sentence was much higher than the amount of punishment imposed on social media.
Keser was transferred to Tarsus Prison after his procedures.
Once again, journalism is on trial!
