The Saturday Mothers were once again attacked and detained when they went to Galatasaray Square to ask about the fate of their relatives following the Constitutional Court’s ‘rights violation’ decision. Before relatives of the disappeared were taken into custody, they said, “We want to have our disappeared loved ones to enjoy real holidays. While everyone is visiting the graves of their relatives, we are in Galatasaray on this holiday.”
Following the Constitutional Court’s ‘rights violation’ decision against police detentions of the mothers, the Saturday Mothers were once again in Galatasaray Square to ask about the fate of their relatives. Relatives of the disappeared, who said “We are in Galatasaray on the occasion of the religious holiday,” were blockaded by the police in Galatasaray Square. The families and friends of those who were made to disappear by the Turkish state came to their traditional square with carnations in their hands.
16 people, including IHD, the human rights association co-chair Eren Keskin, were detained by the Turkish police against the recent ruling of the Constitution Court, which ruled that the detention of mothers by the police violated their basic human rights. The Saturday Mothers said the following before they were taken into custody, during which the police also attacked and forcefully removed the press:
We want our loved ones who were made to disappear found, for us to enjoy real holidays. While everyone is visiting the graves of their relatives, we are in Galatasaray on this holiday. We don’t have a grave to visit. We brought our carnations here today because there were no graves to go to.
