Utility Hike Protests Spread: Mardin, Kızıltepe, Silvan, Yüksekova, Tatvan, Eastbeyazıt!

• Kızıltepe
Tens of thousands of people gathered in the Kızıltepe Freedom Square and marched by blocking the road, the Mesopotamian Agency reported. Carrying foreign currency and electricity bills, the people of Kızıltepe set the bills on fire in the square. Kızıltepe residents, reacting to the private electricity distribution company Dicle Electricity Distribution Co. (DEDAŞ), known for cutting the power of those who had unpaid utılıty bills, were blocked by the police when they tried to walk to the DEDAŞ building. Police attacked the People of Kızıltepe with pepper spray and water cannons.
• Silvan
Several people gathered in front of the Silvan PTT Postal Services building and marched towards the private power distribution DEDAS building, the Mesopotamian Agency reported. The citizens read a protest statement in front of the governor’s office.
• Mardin
At the organizing of the Mardin Labour and Democracy Platform, people gathered at the Highways Park in the Artuklu district and issued a press release, the Mesopotamian Agency reported. Electricity was increased at an exorbitant rate, the statement said, stressing that the income items of citizens, especially the minimum wage, were not raised at these rates.
• Yüksekova
Hundreds of people marched in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari yesterday to protest against electricity bills, the Mesopotamian Agency reported. In the evening, local small businesses operating around the TOKI residences of the district protested the high electricity bills by lighting candles in their shops.
