The government, that is only the arm of capitalism is responsible for the crisis. Capitalism has no other promise other than to devaluate labor further and to further impoverish everybody. Those who ignore the lives of the workers so that the wheels of capital turn during the pandemic period again ignore the demands of the workers for the benefit of the capital.
Action Against the New Utility Hikes in Antalya, Turkey: “Capitalism has no promise other than impoverishment”
A rally took place against the hikes in Attalos Square at the organizing of Antalya Labor and Democracy
At the organizing of Antalya Labor and Democracy Association, a rally was done against the price increases in Attalos Square. Mustafa Ayar, president of the Antalya Branch of All Retired Union, read the press release at the action. People who participated brought gas lamps and candles to protest the increases in energy hikes for electricity and natural gas.
The statement noted that the inflation announced by TUIK, which is the official government statistics department, has no credibility, and reminded that thousands of workers are resisting the impoverishing policies of the system. Antalya residents, whose voice was reflected in this statement, echoed that the government was only listening to the contractors and capitalists. The statement continued:
The government, that is only the arm of capitalism is responsible for the crisis. Capitalism has no other promise other than to devaluate labor further and to further impoverish everybody. Those who ignore the lives of the workers so that the wheels of capital turn during the pandemic period again ignore the demands of the workers for the benefit of the capital.
At the end of the statement, the demands were voiced:
• Price increases to basic necessities such as electricity, natural gas, fuel and transportation, especially food products, should be withdrawn and taxes should be reduced. Energy distribution companies should be nationalized.
• Direct income support should be provided to all those who lost their jobs in the crisis and whose incomes decreased.
• Layoffs should be banned.
• Working conditions should be corrected. Measures should be taken to ensure that workers work safely and in healthy and safe conditions.
• The basic requirements of those living below the poverty line must be met.
• Special excise taxes that become a means of intervention in the lifestyle should be abolished.
• Guaranteed payments indexed to foreign currency rates to contractors should be canceled.
