Vaccine Patents and Vaccine Trade is a Crime Against Humanity
It is essential to vaccinate majority of the population in the same short period of time to brake the chain of infection and overcome pandemics. All humanity will be under a new wave of pandemics as long as the epidemics continue in any corner of the World. It is impossible to defeat the epidemic for humanity before 75 percent of the population are vaccinated throughout the world
Shamefully, because of TRIPS Agreement (Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) imposed by neoliberalism, COVID-19 vaccines are international trade goods. Negotiations for Intellectual Property (IP) waiver for COVID 19 vaccines, bid by India and South Africa is blocked by imperialist countries USA, Germany, EU countries, Canada, Japan, Australia etc. If the vaccines are not available free of charge or cheaply, vaccination will be insufficient for about a hundred countries.
Government sponsored giant pharmaceutical companies, (by opposing the abolishing of vaccine patents) and neoliberal governments (by not expropriating the production of vaccine) have become biggest barriers to defeat pandemics. Monopoly capital and capitalist governments, usurp the rights to health and to free social life.
Hence, the optimal way to stop COVID 19 pandemic through vaccination is to by-pass the vaccine patents by generic vaccine production. But we must force governments and pharmaceutical companies to free the public production of the vaccines. For this purpose, all peoples should organise massive protests and boycotts against vaccine producing big pharmaceutical companies. Physicians and patients should use generic drugs instead of these companies’ drugs. Poor peoples should force their governments, should ensure that public health and social security institutions to participate these boycotts and to force these pharmaceutical companies free of charge supply of vaccine.
Stop to Vaccine Patents and Vaccine Trade!
