It is a very high risk to accuse the murderers of a crime in Turkey if the perpetrators are from the ruling party. Even if the murders are committed openly, in broad daylight, in front of witnesses, for everyone to see, the criminals get away with murder, literally, if they are close to the rulers.
A few days ago, Emine Şenyaşar started a sit-in protest in front of the Justice Building in Urfa, Turkey. She and her surviving son were protesting the murder of her husband and two sons. The killers are walking free because they belong to Erdoğan’s ruling AKP party.
The police first allowed the women to mourn for few days; however, when the leading opposition party members paid a visit and supported her protest, the mother and son were detained, and their lawyers were not allowed to enter the Justice Building.
Yesterday, representatives of a pro-Kurdish party, DTK, also visited the grieving mother and son. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back for the Turkish authorities. The plight of the mother seeking justice was being heard and spreading.
She and her son were detained yesterday after the visit from the DTK party. The police also confiscated her leaflets giving information about how her family was killed.
