The justices are appointed in Turkey by the government. Their job depends on their decisions, and this is true especially in the East, where the incident occurred, family ties and loyalties are significant. Combined with the rampant corruption and the strict loyalty demands by the AKP government, it became evident that justice was not going to be served when the attackers were an AKP representative’s relatives.
Woman not allowed to mourn for the murdered family by AKP representative’s relatives
Emine Şenyaşar is demanding justice. She demands justice for her husband Haci Esvet Şenyaşar’s and her two sons’ murder. Three other relatives were also injured in the same attack by another family in the eastern province of Urfa in Turkey. She is not getting any justice because the attackers are the relatives of the ruling AKP party’s representative İbrahim Halil Yıldız. To add insult to injury, after the assault, the police detained, then the local court arrested her injured relatives instead of the attackers.
Mourning Şenyaşar and her remaining son Fadıl started a sit-in on March 9th to protest the murders when they saw how biased the government and the justice system were towards the attackers.
On the 8th day of her protest mourning in front of the justice building in Urfa province, Emine was charged and detained for “insulting government officers.” The AKP government has been using the “insult” charge against any criticism related to its dictatorial rule.
She was released after the detention as authorities thought this warning would change Emine’s mind to embarrass the government.
Even the local governor met with her to “listen to her complaints.”
However, the warning and the “good cop” phase immediately changed when a group from the leading opposition party CHP visited Emine Şenyaşar. They met at the Urfa Bar Association, with many lawyers participating in the meeting. Erdoğan’s government could not tolerate this solidarity action.
After the meeting, when Emine went back to the justice building to continue her protest mourning, the police stopped them. Demanding an explanation, the mother and son, together with their attorneys, tried entering the court building. However, the authorities prevented them from entering. The police explained to them that demonstrations were banned at all public facilities in Urfa. When the lawyer attempted to enter the courthouse, even he was not allowed due to the “possibility of a protest action.”
The family filed an official complaint to Attorney General through their lawyer. However, to repeat, Turkey’s justices are appointed by the government that values loyalty above all.
