The textile workers union Tekstil-Sen started a worker resistance at Duygu Tekstil plant at Bağcılar.
The resistance is due to the owner’s refusing to pay one months of salary and 3 months worth of overtime. In the previous negotiations the bosses had promised to pay the dues by April 20. But later, at the last meetings the owners said they would only pay close to a third of what they owed. The 6 workers of the plant then, decided to resist.
The workers declared, in a press release in front of the plant, that, they would continue to resist in any means necessary both legally and on the shop floor. Beycan Taşkıran, the Organizing Expert of Tekstil-Sen said the resistance was organized only to receive the dues owed by the plant to the laborers. He also added that because of the pro-business laws passed by the Justice and Development Party Government was causing the laborers to be more impoverished and called for support for the resistance at the textile plant.
The workers chanted, “We want our dues,” and, “We Will Win Only by Resisting.” Other workers from neighboring plants showed interest in the resistance and participated in the event.
