A group of students, including fascists, gathered on the Yıldız Technical University Beşiktaş campus for a rally to celebrate “Newroz Holiday”.
The leftist students objected to the display of “Grey wolf” (Nationalist rightists) banners and rightist slogans and in the resulting brawl three rightist students were injured. The injured were treated at the University Medical Center. Meanwhile two busloads of riot police arrived at the campus.
Around one hundred leftist students gathered in front of the university canteen, chanting “Fascism Will Be Buried in Yıldız”, “Fascism Will Drown in the Blood It Sheds”.
The students wanted the University President to make the rightist group and the police leave the campus. After the police had taken the injured away all concerned left the grounds.
Fascist attacks continued the next day. The fascists, carrying sticks and knives, retaliated by attacking Öğrencievi, a site frequented by leftist students. Unable to break the defense of the students, the fascists left in half an hour. After the conflict was over, the police surrounded the Öğrencievi, claiming protection.
Fascists had ambushed and knifed a student going home from the university in the neighborhood in previous days.
