February 25, 2006 –
Last week, TAYAD, the organization of the Families and Friends of the Imprisoned and the Arrested attempted a book-launching event of the newly published book “Isolation” at the central Taksim park in Istanbul. However, the police attacked the families arbitrarily, without any reason. To protest this arbitrary attack, TAYAD was once again at the Taksim square yesterday.
At 3:00PM the members gathered and read a press release to report on how they were attacked arbitrarily by the cops and that they were back to sell the book, “Isolation.”
This time the families were harassed by the police who required them to sell the book without wearing their aprons. However, the attorneys of TAYAD intervened and the families were allowed to wear the aprons reading, “Stop Isolations and Stop the Deaths.”
160 members of the organization participated in the collective book-selling event where through loud speakers they expressed that “in the last 6 years, 121 people lost their lives resisting heroically against the isolation punishment. The death fast against the isolation is going on. The people who experienced isolation are telling their stories.”
The event lasted about an hour.
