The management of the Manisa Red Crescent Turkish relief agency Kızılay’s local Branch was dismissed for reacting to the scandals created by the organization’s headquarters. The head and management of the Şehzadeler Branch also resigned, stating that “the salaries received by the Kızılay administration and the sale of relief tents (to earthquake victims) overshadowed the activities and activities of the institution.”
After the February 6th earthquake, the reactions against the management of Kerem Kınık, the president of the Red Crescent, who signed the deal to sell the relief tents in the organization’s inventory to third parties, are not waning. Resignations have even begun in some branches. While Kınık and his Turkish government-friendly administration announced that they would not resign, voices within the Red Crescent started objecting to their scandal-ridden reign.
According to İsmail Arı from BirGün Daily, Kızılay’s Manisa Branch President Atilla Efendioğlu and the branch management were dismissed from their positions with the accusation that they damaged the reputation of the institution. Efendioğlu said,
“We collect donations from the people by begging and begging, but they receive monthly salaries of 50 thousand TL and 125 thousand TL there. Would that be okay? As the board of directors of the Kızılay Manisa Provincial Presidency, we have been dismissed by the decision of the Kızılay General Center Board of Directors on the grounds of ‘damaging the reputation of the Red Crescent.’ “
Akif Özer, the President of the Kızılay Branch in Şehzadeler district, one of the largest districts of Manisa, and his administration resigned in reaction to the scandals caused by Kızılay President Kınık and his administration. Kızılay Şehzadeler Branch President Akif Özer shared his resignation document sent to the General Presidency of the Red Crescent on his social media account.
