The Diyarbakır Bar Association issued a written statement yesterday regarding the racist attack on three Kurdish workers because they were speaking Kurdish in the Bodrum district of Muğla by a group.
In its statement, the bar association said, “We have learned that three construction workers in Bodrum district of Muğla province were physically and verbally attacked because they had Kurdish identities and were using the Kurdish language. Within the scope of the investigation, it is reported that the perpetrators have been arrested, and it has been decided to release them after only taking their statements.”
In a statement, the Diyarbakir Bar Association said, “Due to their Kurdish identity and the use of the Kurdish language, we see that Kurdish citizens are subject to hate speech and attacks. The use of violence and polarizing language creates the formation of racist attacks that are hateful in their nature.” We reject the practices and policies that pave the way for racist and discriminatory attacks on the Kurdish identity and the Kurdish language, harming social peace and inciting conflict. We demand that the judicial authorities conduct a compelling and urgent investigation and punish the perpetrators. Our Muğla Bar Association has been contacted on the subject and the legal process, and we will follow the case together.”
The report said the attackers were later released.
