Nine socialists arrested

The Turkish government detained socialist party and organization leaders on March 12th. The detained opposition organizers were sent to court and arrested.

Nine socialists arrested

On March 12, socialists were detained by the Turkish government, including reporter Elif Bayburt, Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) Co-Chairs Yaren Tuncer and Okan Danacı, Central Executive Committee member Senem Pektaş, Socialist Women’s Assemblies (SKM) General Assembly member Tanya Kara, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Party Assembly member Birkan Polat, and Devrim Barış from the Youth Communes.

ETHA correspondent Elif Bayburt and Devrim Barış Yılmaz from Youth Communes were released after the prosecutor’s statement, while other socialists were referred to the court with a request for arrest.

The socialists referred to the court were all arrested.
