The parties that make up the Labor and Freedom Alliance gathered to discuss strategies and coordination at the upcoming May 14th elections. At the meeting for the 28th term elections, a compromise was reached for the General Representative Elections. A report on the details of the meeting is to be published soon.
The Labor and Freedom Alliance, formed by the Labor Action Party (EHP), the Labor Party (EMEP), the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the Federation of Socialist Assemblies (SMF), the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) and the Social Freedom Party (TÖP), is part of the Presidential Elections and the 28th Term General Elections. The term met to discuss the General Election of the Deputies.
The parties gathered under the hosting of the HDP to determine their strategy for the parliamentary elections. They also discussed the alliance’s position on the Presidential Election.
The HDP brought the proposal to enter the elections with a common list, which was decided at the Central Executive Board meeting. The Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) and the Labor Party (EMEP) have proposed to enter the elections with their own separate lists.
Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan (HDP) and Mithat Sancar (HDP), who were authorized by the Central Executive Board to discuss the proposals of the HDP and TİP and EMEP, met with TİP Chairman Erkan Baş and EMEP Chairman Ercüment Akdeniz.
At the meeting, It was reported that a consensus had been reached for the Parliamentary Elections. An announcement is expected later in the day.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
At the HDP’s VQA meeting held yesterday, it was claimed that “the decision was taken to enter the elections under the roof of a single party and on a single list.”
The HDP Central Committee authorized Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar to negotiate with the parties in the Labor and Freedom Alliance.
TİP, on the other hand, announced the Final Declaration after the PM meeting held in Hatay and expressed its opinion in support of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu (CHP – Peoples’ Republican Party, the main opposition social democratic party), the Presidential Candidate of the Nation Alliance.
“The tendency regarding the presidential elections to unite the opposition in a common candidate in order to defeat the current Palace Regime and save our people from the monstrous structure called the presidential system of government is valuable. The Central Committee has been authorized to make a decision in support of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s candidacy in consultation with the democratic public, especially the allied institutions in the Labor and Freedom Alliance.”
The party also decided to run in the elections with its own name and emblem. The declaration noted:
“The Party Assembly has identified the provinces in which we should enter the elections under our own name, emblem, and candidates with the Alliance, in a way that will strengthen the Labor and Freedom Alliance in the distribution of deputies. The most important reason for this is that this option will weaken the front of the Republican Alliance (the alliance of the current ruling AKP party and president Erdogan). Moreover, the electoral alliance must be able to achieve a multi-color stance to meet all the demands of all of our people and to be able to represent the widest possible community of citizens. Our Party’s preference to participate in the elections with its own name, emblem, and candidates in the Alliance is aimed at meeting this requirement. In this decision, our organization’s reports and field research data were also taken into consideration.”
