The Batman Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, claiming that “he constantly reads the books of an organization and buys its newspapers,” filed a lawsuit against the visually impaired father Hasan Yalçın on the grounds of “aiding an illegal organization” and reading the “propaganda of the organization.”
The Batman Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit against the visually impaired father Hasan Yalçın on charges of “aiding an illegal organization” and reading “propaganda of the organization.” The charges filed against the blind man were based on the statements of a 14-year-old boy given under police control that “he constantly reads the books of the organization and buys its newspapers.”
According to Fethi Balaman from Mesopotamia News Agency, 14-year-old S.Y., who was threatened by the police in the Kozluk district of Batman with arrest, was made to sign a prepared text that was handed over to him at the Kozluk Security Directorate where he was taken in August 2020. Visually impaired father Hasan Yalçın, who was taken into custody during a raid on their home as a result of the child’s statement, was detained at the police station for four days.
35 people were detained
Yalçın, who is visually impaired, was taken into custody for the first time and was asked to put his finger on a piece of paper without being told about his rights or the contents of the paper he was signing, without a lawyer. Yalçın was brought to court on charges of “aiding an illegal organization” and “doing propaganda for an organization.” Following his police proceedings, Yalçın was placed under house arrest. Based on the signed statement that was never read by Yalçın, 35 people were taken into custody on September 2021, including Nazime Avcı, the co-chair of Hezo village Municipality. The detainees were later released.
While the indictment against Yalçın for “aiding an organization” and “making propaganda for the organization,” which requests a prison sentence, was accepted by the Batman 2nd Heavy Penal Court, the first hearing will be held on March 30.
