In the intensive care unit of Private Defne Hospital in Hatay Antakya, it was revealed that 14 patients, one of whom was an infant, were left to die after the earthquake and that the rescue team rescued five people from the hospital they entered by chance.
Private Defne Hospital was severely damaged due to the earthquake in Antakya district of Hatay. The Zonguldak UMKE team, a volunteer team of mine workers, which was dispatched to the region after the earthquake, entered the damaged building by chance and searched for people on every floor.
It was reported that 14 people were left to die, but only five people could be saved.
Speaking to daily Sözcü’s Latif Sansür, search and rescue volunteer Serkan Ayten said that they were able to save only 5 of the 14 patients who were left naked and connected to intensive care devices in a hospital with no windows, destroyed walls and no electricity.
Stating that those who remained in intensive care were forgotten, Ayten said, “We found one baby and eight adult intensive care patients who were forgotten dead. We found five elderly patients, three of whom were women, living in the intensive care unit. The hospital management and everyone from the doctor to the nurse who forgets the elderly there should give an account of this unscrupulousness.”
