Protest from Fatih Solidarity Group against price hikes despite the police obstacle: “Let Cengiz Corporation pay these bills”
Fatih Solidarity Group members, met at Kocamustafapaşa Square in Istanbul to protest the recent price hikes and read a press statement. The police tried to prevent the rally and the press conference, however, the protesters were able to complete the rally after publicly burning the utility bills.

When Fatih Solidarity, met at Kocamustafapaşa Square in Istanbul against the recent unprecedented price hikes and wanted to read a press statement, the police attacked. Trying to prevent anybody from speaking, the police tore up the banner prepared for the action. Despite the provocative attack of the police, and under constant harassment by the state forces, a press statement was read in the square with the determination of the members of Fatih Solidarity.

The statement first denounced the violence perpetrated by the police. The speaker stated that the attack of the police was a reflection of the hostile attitude of the government towards the increasingly impoverished people. It was emphasized that the recent price hikes and the gradual increase prediction in inflation which could hit above 50 percent make the meager increase in the minimum wage meaningless. “What will we do in February, and what will we do in March? How are we going to make a living in April?” Fatih Solidarity asked, stating that nothing would change until a worker-friendly environment dominated the whole society and of life.

“We don’t want to pay these bills said the speaker, “Let Cengiz pay these bills, let the rich pay.” After these words, the members of the Fatih Solidarity group burned the utility bills.
