Dürdane Özselgi, 65, was out shopping at a farmers’ market two years ago in Turkey. The ruling AKP party also had a stand in the same market, and she had a brief exchange of words with the party members there. She is accused of saying, “How much more do you need? You ate up everything, but you are still not satisfied.” Özselgi, of course, was criticizing the rampant corruption, greed, bribery, and open theft that has become the norm under AKP rule in Turkey.
Woman, charged with insulting the president, may get more than three years of prison sentence for supposedly insulting the Turkish president.

As reported by DemokratHaber.org, somebody ratted her to the authorities. Next thing she knows, on a visiting day at her neighbors, the army units raided the neighbor and detained her. The police charged her with insulting the president.
She claims she only said, “The people are hungry in this country, but you are still hunting for votes. When is it enough for you?” to the AKP representatives in the market stand.
The woman who reported her claimed Özselgi attacked her and tried to rip her headscarf from her head, an insult in Muslim cultures.
She may get three years and four months’ sentence for “insulting the president.”
