Turkish police conducted house raids at the early hours of the morning on March 19 in Ankara, the nation’s capital.
Authorities arrested a total of 12 people, which included the president of the Human Rights Association İHD. The rest of the detainees are affiliated with the opposition HDP, which is a progressive electoral party.

While there was no government statement on the raids’ reason, the Human Rights Association published a statement informing how their president has been detained. The organization said their president’s detention is only the latest proof of attacks against human rights defenders.
It was only a few days ago the interior minister Süleyman Soylu targeted the Human Rights Association and said, “I wish that Association dies!”
