Medicine Week: Doctors to government: “We are exhausted, dead. You are criminals.”
Health care professionals, and physicians, are celebrating the Medicine Week that started on March 14th in Turkey. The Turkish Doctors’ Association (TTB) and the Chamber of Physicians of Istanbul (ITO), the largest occupational organizations of Doctors in Turkey, organized rallies in Istanbul to commemorate the week by celebrating the health care workers who lost their lives during the ongoing pandemic.
Professor Dr. Pınar Saip, the head of ITO, speaking during the rally, said the commemoration day was a day of struggle for doctors and health professionals for the last 102 years.
The central committee member for the TTB, Associate Professor Dr. Deniz Erdoğdu, said the Medicine Week commemorations were not a joyful holiday but were actions of struggle. She reminded that thousands of people and hundreds of healthcare professionals lost their lives due to the pandemic in the last year. She said the Turkish government failed in managing the epidemic by not being open, consistent, and not employing epidemiological standards.
