“What did you intend to accomplish by publishing such a report” asked the prosecutor. The report in question had reported that on the day the report was published there had been 20 cases in the city and 3 people had died due to the virus.
Turkish government is on full alert to keep the real coronavirus involved cases under cover. Doctors, nurses, hospitals everywhere are reporting figures well above what the Turkish AKP government would like you to believe.
Adding to the list of journalists, health care professionals, regular people who reported contradictory figures and were detained, questioned or interrogated due to their reporting, now the Urfa province president of the Chamber of Physicians, Ömer Melik, is under investigation.
Publishing a report on the effects of the coronavirus on the city and province of Urfa, the Turkish Doctors’ Association TTB wanted the people to know and to get prepared for the still spreading virus.
Turkey is currently the top in the world where the virus spreads the fastest. It is the responsibility of the health care professionals to inform the public of what is happening around them and their families.
However, the Turkish government begs to differ.
As soon as the report was published, the president of the association was called in to testify by the police.
“What did you intend to accomplish by publishing such a report” asked the prosecutor. The report in question had reported that on the day the report was published there had been 20 cases in the city and 3 people had died due to the virus.
Melik answered the prosecutor’s question saying nothing in the report constituted a crime and the figures in the report were not exaggerated. The report also shared the lack of PPE and protective gear needed to fight the outbreak.
Turkish government is accusing the doctors’ association of “causing needless panic and fear among the population.”
The association pledged that no matter how much they would be threatened or tried to be intimidated, they would continue exposing the truth.
