The police organization of Turkey said those who are scaring the people by spreading news about the coronavirus will be investigated.
The police will be scanning the social media posts to determine who is writing anything about the coronavirus, especially those who claim Turkey has coronavirus infections.
Recently a Turkish Airlines was flown back empty from Singapore due to having flown from Turkey to Singapore with an infected passenger. Turkey immediately denied the accusation and claimed the infected person was not a Turkish citizen. The flight crew, even upon their return were not quarantined.
Turkey kept the Iranian border open for a while even though the virus killed many people, including high ranking government officials in Iran. The border was closed and flights stopped only after an outcry of the people forcing the Turkish government to act responsibly. Turkey claims no coronavirus was transmitted from any passenger from Iran.
The people are weary of government announcements in Turkey. The credibility of the government has been tarnished in the past where government has attempted many times twisting obvious events and gave false information. For example, even very recently, when Turkey started a war with Syria, the Turkish government started investigations and questioning of people who used the word “war” or even “invasion” for the operations against Syria. People find it hard to believe that with THY, the Turkish Airlines, that has made Istanbul its hub, no cases of coronavirus, as the government claims, have appeared in Turkey.
These concerns did not go well with the Turkish authorities.
The police have started a scanning program to monitor the social media posts to determine if any “false” news is published, meaning any opposition view. If any news or views indicates the existence of the disease in Turkey, or contradicts the official view of the Turkish government, the police will start the judicial process for those responsible.
