The health organizations, doctors, physicians, worker unions, and peoples’ associations have been criticizing the Turkish government for not being prepared, not having enough test kits, not having testing facilities for the coronavirus pandemic.
Turkey had closed down public health organizations that used to prepare the public and manufacture vaccines and testing kits for the entire country. Turkish health services are being privatized and very high levels of corruption exists throughout the system.
The Health minister, Fahrettin Koca, himself owns chains of hospitals as well as the president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife.
In response to questions and criticisms, as if joking, the Health Minister of Turkey announced that Turkey did have enough testing kits, but that they were being exported to the US.
Fahrettin Koca, the minister for health, explained in the National Assembly that Turkey started to develop testing kits after the coronavirus pandemic but the kits were being exported to the US.
He also added Turkey had enough test kits, 115,000 of them, ready for tests and Turkey had the capacity to manufacture a million test kits per month.
He did not answer the questions nearly all health organization had been asking, “Why the coronavirus tests not being done in Turkey?”
