The gathering was organized by the Istanbul Chamber of Physicians in a show of support for their member lecturer. The gathering started in the office of the professor but continued at the front gate of the university. In his talk, Özdemir Aktan said, “These types of efforts demoralizes the entire country. As a physician when I look around, I see the entire country under depression. Unfortunately the people are unable to have any positive thoughts concerning the future.”
Özdemir Aktan had been teaching at Marmara University since 1988. He expressed he will miss his coworkers very much together with his assistants and students. He also said, “I will wait for a full return. I will work towards a return back to work. I consider this a temporary leave.”

Addressing the crowd Incilay Erdoğan, member of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chamber of Physicians, said, “We are here to say ‘no’ to the unjust, unlawful expulsions happening in the public sector. We are here to say, ‘no’ to those enthusiastic about dictatorship in our country. And we will continue being here. We want everyone to know that as the Istanbul Chamber of Physicians and the Physicians Association of Turkey we will keep reminding that the expulsions without any investigation or any court decision does not reflect well on our country. We are also determined to defend democracy, law and justice until our coworker doctors, especially our teacher professor dr. Özdemir Aktan, who represent the best and honored profession, return back to their jobs.”
