The state prosecutors in this western city in Turkey are charging the participants after they exercised their right to free transportation.
Last November 25th, around 150 protestors staged a demonstration in front of a hospital organized by KESK, the Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions, and Halkevleri, the Peoples Houses, a massive peoples’ organization. The demonstrators exercised their right to free public transportation by jumping over the ticket barriers to reach another massive demonstration downtown protesting the government’s neo liberal policies, IMF and the World Bank mandates.
Private security and police forces trying to prevent the demonstration had attacked the demonstrators and had beaten and arrested several demonstrators. Two protestors suffered serious injuries after they were beaten by the police.
The charged will face the court on March 20, 2010.
