The Education Ministry adminstration started an investigation against 15,000 teachers in Istanbul for their stoppage of work on November 25, 2009.
Principles of schools are mandated to file a report with depositions of all teachers who did not show to work on November 25. The teachers are to fill a “deposition of a suspect” form and explain thier absance for that day. The teachers are mandated to complete their “suspect” statements in 7 days.
The principles will also report the suggested punishment to their city Education Department for teachers action. The principles have the authority to request a cut in wages to punish the teachers.
Alaaddin Dincer, the ex-presidnet of Education Workers Union, Egitim-Sen said they are ready to challange the decision if the department goes ahead with punishing the teachers.
