Millions of people effected by water cuts in the hottest days in summer in the nations capital are trying ways to find water.
The municipality arranged a press conference where officials tried to explain the bureaucratic mishap, miscalculation and lack of planning that left the people without water.
The problems started when two pipes collapsed in two consecutive days. The officials said the pipes had 50 year life span and had only been installed 25 years ago. The concrete pipe has been replaced by a higher quality steel pipe which caused some of the delay in service. The chemicals used at the joints needed time to bond before the pipes could be used, which led to further delays in the service, the officials said.
They added, “Another line had collapsed the day before. Therefore we had to cut the water service to the city.” The water will reach the residents living at higher elevations around 36 hours after it will be released following the repair.
The collapse of the pipes were caused by wrongly releasing water into empty pipes without allowing the air in them to escape. The trapped air exploded the pipes.
