The management of Turkish Airlines continues its irregular practices. First they sacrificed a camel on the last religious holiday, now they are after the workers.
Ten workers in the nation’s capital, Ankara, were laid off due to contracting a private company to do the same work.
Workers, protesting these practices staged two demonstrations in Ankara and Istanbul.
Workers who were laid off, family members and other supporting co-workers participated in the demonstration in Ankara where a representative of Hava-İş union read a prepared statement. The statement said the government and the management appointed by this government to Turkish Airlines held animosity against labor.
In Istanbul, workers gathering from many divisions of the airline industry gathered in front of the offices of Turkish Airlines management. The president of Hava-İş union, Atilay Ayçin spoke to participants and to the press expressed that the lay offs were management’s scare tactics prior to the scheduled collective bargaining talks due shortly. He added that if workers do not stand united against the lay offs and do not defend the sacked workers, the management would target them next.
