Following the closure of the medical center in the Retirement Department by the Social Security Administration, 2000 workers took to the streets in protest.
On top of closing the medical center, a new 2% cut in the workers wages triggered the protest. Saturday the administration closed the medical center and called all doctors to the administration building. On Monday, arriving at work and discovering the medical center was closed, the workers gathered to march to the administration buildings.
The 2000 workers also protested the transfer of all medical equipment and supplies bought with the savings from the workers to the administration.
First gathering in front of their offices, the workers marched to the administration offices led by the union officials from Bureau Workers Union BES.
Speaking with an official the workers through their union demanded that the medical center, opened and funded by the savings from the workers wages, be opened again. Seeing the determination and the protest, the officials accepted the workers demands. The official promised to take the necessary steps towards reopening of the medical center later this week.
