Ex-secretary of Justice Hikmet Sami Türk, the main architect of the December 19th massacre of political prisoners was not welcome at the University of Ankara where the students protested his appearance to give a speech. The protesters, on the other hand were attacked by security guards and the police force.
Hikmet Sami Türk was the main architect of the notorious “isolation” punishment of the political prisoners still being exercised in the torturous Turkish prisons. The students chanted, “We don’t want murderers in our schools,” and demanded the ex-secretary, responsible for dozens of deaths when the armed forces opened fire upon defenseless prisoners protesting the “isolation” punishment, to leave the campus.
During his speech, when 2 students wanted to speak to protest Hikmet Sami Türk, security guards and the police attacked and arrested them.
These incidents also brought the special police forces, named the “Agile Forces,” trained in brutal tactics for crowd control to the university. The entire school was held under siege by the Agile Force while the ex-secretary tried to make his speech.
Earlier in the day, when the current Justice Minister Cemil Çiçek came to speak, he too was greeted with protests.
The siege of the university is still underway at this time while the students are holding on inside the school against the Agile Police Force.
