Lunch service was discontinued in 28 out of 59 provinces where AKP (the ruling party) is in control of municipalities. In İstanbul and Ankara only five municipalities under AKP control serve food during the fasting month of Ramadan. The dining halls were closed under various pretexts such as no demand and remodeling.
Also in Kastamonu where MHP (Nationalist Party) has the municipality, lunch service was stopped when the restaurant under contract to serve workers lunch closed its doors during the fasting month.
On the other hand, the municipalities under CHP (the Republican Party) and DSP (Democratic Left Party) continued serving food to non-fasting workers.
Furthermore, in some municipalities in Ankara, tea service to workers was stopped for the month. The authorities in the municipality chose this month to repaint the kitchen and tea canteen walls.
