Socialist and revolutionary press emplyees met at a rally in Ankara to protest attacks on the revolutionary and opposing press.
The rally held in front of the Monument of Human Rights was in protest to War on Terrorism Law (WTL), and attacks on anti-imperialist, revolutionary, patriotic and socialist personalities, specially after the Parliamaent approved the deployment of Turkish troops to Lebenon.
A press release was issued before the rally stated that the WTL gave the police unlimitted and indiscriminate authority in handling the potential suspects. In fact, it turned the TMY into a Law of War on the Community.
” This Law is planned to eradicate the freedom of expression, the freedom to organize and the freedom to defend legal rights. The attack to shut down the Atılım Newspaper, the raid on their offices and their closure and also the operation against Free Radio are clear indications that this will spread to all democratic institutions.”
After the press release was read, the newspapermen put their cameras on the ground and broke their pens as an act of protest.
