The workers who were fired from the AL-CO kitchenware factory for unionizing and who have been attacked by the Turkish army units gendarmerie many times have now been attacked by the scabs.
After the attack, the gendarmerie arrested the workers. The union president Ahmet Durak was among those arrested.
Injured worker Seyit Akyıldız later recalled the event: “We were waiting in our resistance tent outside the gates of the plant. We heard the head of security shout from within the gate, gibing the order to attack. When we looked out, there were 150 scabs with metal machine parts in their hands attacking us. We fought back the scabs for a long time. Then the troops came and arrested our friends and they were taken to different station then the scabs. They also tore down our resistance tent and took away all our belongings. I could not leave because I was injured together with my friend Engin. The gendarmerie did not take us to the hospital, they did not help us. People passing on the street took us to the hospital.”
Injured workers were taken to their homes by union officials after they were treated in the hospital.
