Textile Workers Union Tekstil-Sen protested the jailing of their president, Ms. Ayşe Yumli Yeter in a written statement.
The statement:
President of our union is jailed
The police raided our central offices, our Izmir branch and Denizli branch on September 12, which resembled the raids of September 12 military coup period.
After long searches in our offices, the police confiscated many computers, CD’s, diskettes, and id cards belonging to our member workers and many documents. During the raid, which could be classified as a legal scandal, our president Ms. Ayşe Yumli Yeter was arrested without any legitimate reason.
After being detained for 4 days, Ayşe Yumli Yeter was sent to jail by the court on September 25th,
We know full well that these attacks are done because of the new anti-terror laws and we are paying the price for opposing such measures.
Our union is targeted because we have been engaged in labor class unionism and have stood beside the working class and the oppressed and have resisted against the enslavement policies of capitalism.
These attacks represent assaults against the vanguards of the working class and the awakening of the millions of oppressed.
The collaborationist JDP governing party wants to create a rose garden without any thorns to be able to apply their backward policies. The Justice and Development Party is attacking the democratic scientific education demand of the students, demands of unionization and living with a decent wage at a normal human level of the workers, the hazelnut growers and the working class. Lastly, the JDP is attacking the revolutionaries and socialists who are the voice of the millions. This way, they are showing us what kind of a “garden” they are trying to create.
We need to unite and organize the joint resistance against this attack of capital because the anti-terror law targets all opposition.
Our union will continue being the hope of millions by its understanding of class unionism against slavery conditions at work.
We demand that our president Ayşe Yumli Yeter be released immediately who was arrested illegally and in a non democratic way. We are calling all media, organizations, and political parties to resist these illegal raids, arrests and oppression against mass organizations, unions and democratic institutions.
