Workers organized under Birleşik Metal-İş, the United Metal Workers Union, welded the main doors of the factory shut when firings started.
85 of the total 320 workers of Trakya Sanayi factory in the industrial western city of Kocaeli in Turkey joined the United Metal Workers Union for representation. Reacting with several labor actions to the threats of the bosses since last March, the workers continued their fight to organize under the new union.
When the bosses refused to honor the agreements and refused to take back the fired 6 workers, yesterday morning the workers welded shut the doors of the factory in protest.
The president of the local said the workers would continue their action until all fired workers are reinstated.
