The events that followed after the frustrated hazelnut growers rally resulted in the police arresting two more growers.
Frustrated for months for not getting paid by the government office which bought the harvest, a demonstration and rally was organized by the Chamber of Agriculturalists of Turkey on July 30th. The rally brought together the peasants and farmers who have been tricked and dismissed by the ruling government. After the rally, the growers had blocked the highway passing through the Black Sea region in the Northern part of Turkey. As a result of the police attack on the growers, two people were arrested, one being the president of the Communist Party of Turkey’s (TKP) regional office.
The two TKP members were arrested and taken to court where they were sent to jail pending their day in court.
