The prosecutor is asking 3 to 5 year prison terms for students who chained themselves to the Presidency Palace in Ankara to prevent Turkey from participating in the US-Israel plan to send the military to Lebanon.
In the prosecutors case, the law school students are charged with opposing Turkey’s sending soldiers to Lebanon by hanging a banner reading, “The University Will Not be a part of Occupation.”
The case also states that after they chained themselves to the gates and the fence, the suspects refused to disperse after the security officers asked them to leave. The war protestors face 3 to 5 year prison terms if convicted.
