The district prosecutor’s office has started an investigation for the police murder of 15 year old Fevzi Abik while distributing fliers.
Fevzi Abik and his friend Cumali Sağlam were distributing political fliers on August 12th in the fourth largest city in Turkey, Adana. They were both gunned down by the cops. According to the eye witnesses, the police who were trailing the distribution of fliers first arrested the two kids and put handcuffs on them. Then the handcuffs were taken off. The kids started run away when they were set free. The police opened fire behind the running kids and sprayed them with bullets.
Fevzi Abik shot from only two meters behinds died immediately when the bullet hit his head. His friend Cumali Sağlam was shot in the back and taken to a hospital where he underwent a surgery. The bullet had pierced his stomach. He is still under critical condition. Many empty bullet shells were found at the scene of the crime.
The eye witnesses expressed that the police shot the two kids. The news started a reaction in the community. The Adana Security offices immediately denied any wrong doing or involvement.
INVESTIGATION AGAINST THE POLICE
Adana district prosecutor’s office, on the other hand, started an investigation of the incident. Reports indicate that a list of all plain clothes and uniformed police was obtained and their guns were sent to a match test with the bullets found in the victims and the shells found in the vicinity of the killing.
DEMOCRATIC TURKEY PARTY: THOSE WHO DID THIS ARE TERRORISTS
A tent has been erected for those who wanted to visit the family and friends of the deceased. And people from all parts of Adana are flocking to pay their respects and to try to ease the pain of the family.
Kerem Uğur, the president of the Adana branch of DTP- The Democratic Turkey Party was one of the visitors. He spoke in Kurdish and said, “It is obvious that this is not an accident. We said the first day: This is a barbaric murder.”
Kerem Uğur gave the history of Fevzi Abik’s family when they were forced out of their villages by the Turkish authorities and added, “The Kurdish people have paid a heavy price. This family also were forced out of their village and made to migrate to Adana. Now their son has been killed. Those who did this are terrorists. If we don’t want our children murdered again, we should not let this incident go unpunished.” He also demanded the perpetrators to be caught.
