Workers of Alco are fired after welding the plant’s doors shut.

The workers of Alco factory manufacturing kitchen pans have been fired by the bosses.
The workers had welded the doors of the plant shut after a co-worker had been fired. The factory management called the Gendarmerie soldiers to force the workers out of the plant. After the workers had been removed and questioned by the Turkish Army, they went back to their workplace to find a list at the door of all workers fired for the action.
The workers started a sit-in action at the factory’s yard after the event. Those workers not at work that day have been given a day off.
Ahmet Durak, president of Birleşik Metal-İş, the Union of Metal Workers, said, “The management has not responded to our demand to negotiate. We heard about the decision to fire all workers this morning. There is no production in the factory at this moment. We will continue our action until all our co-workers get their jobs back. All we wanted was for the management to stop illegal pressures upon workers and the legal procedures to take effect. The day the action occurred, we had a court hearing on being eligible to represent workers at the plant. The hearing is now postponed.”
The fired workers were prevented from eating at the lunch room at the factory. Workers at another plant, sharing the same space with ALCO, refused to eat in their lunch room to protest ALCO factory’s decision of firing the workers.
