The police attacked the Akmercan cleaning workers who had organized to resist after they had been fired by the contracting firm. The workers had setup tents outside the plant and had started living in them for protest and resistance.
He police first surrounded the workers then arrested them. Workers Abidin Ateşoğlu, Şinasi Odabaşı, and Zaim Özoluk who was beaten and arrested by the cops in handcuffs for not taking the tent down were taken to the police headquarters. The police injured several workers while forcefully taking down the resistance tent.
The workers who had won partial victory with their hunger strike had ended the action in its 8th day. Although the workers had been paid only a week’s worth of their due wages, they went on resistance again to demand the completion of the legal process in the resistance tents.
