International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) sent a letter to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan on the charges that the Turkish government has applied pressure on local authorities to prevent any implementation of more than 130 signed collective bargaining agreements. The letter said this constituted a violation of the right to organize.
The issue came to light when KESK, the Confederation of Public Sector Unions sent a letter of protest to fellow union organizations around the world protesting that its affiliate, Tüm Bel-Sen union, had illegally lost its right to negotiate in local government services. The matter was also taken to court.
Having been notified of the illegal act, ICFTU sent the letter to the Turkish government, addressing the prime minister Erdoğan. After the illegal stripping of negotiating rights, the government offices also stopped answering any questions regarding the matter to Tüm Bel-Sen union. The letter added that the union had the right to organize in the named workplaces.
