Teachers working under contacts convened in Ankara to protest their working conditions which discriminates and prevents them having a secure job. MEDER organization which represents “Victim Teachers and Educational Laborers” organized the rally in the nation’s capital where they voiced their concerns to the Department of Education.
Around 50 member contract teachers of the organization arrived from various parts of the country and staged a demonstration in front of the Education Department where they protested doing exactly the same work as regular teachers but being discriminated against by status, job security and wage levels.
“We want permanent positions, We refuse to be contracted slaves!” shouted the teachers carrying many colorful banners.
The representatives of MEDER explained that in spite of having diplomas that qualifies them for teaching, they are being discriminated against by having to re-take tests and examinations. They also complained they their wages and social security issues lacked behind regular teachers.
This is not the first time MEDER has organized a rally for the contract teachers. The organization had sprung from an internet organization campaign last September and had staged many demonstrations in front of the Department of Education protesting the living conditions of contract, waged, temporary and unemployed teachers.
