The labor organizations in Adana, have declared in a press release that they support the Seyhan Municipal workers in Adana in their struggle and resistance. The representative of KESK (The Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions) from the Teachers union, Güven Boğa, asked for more support to the contract workers of Miray Cleaning Company at the Seyhan municipality.
The representative said the 610 workers had gone on strike to demand permanent positions and their social security benefits. The striking workers were also demanding that their fired co-workers be given their jobs back. Güven Boğa explained that the contract workers usually worked with no social security benefits, without a permanent position and were subject to all kinds of arbitrary practices. He added that they were working under very hard conditions with a very low pay.
The KESK representative called for all people and workers’ organizations to join and support the contract workers’ struggle. He said, “Yesterday, you supported the TEKEL tobacco workers. You prevented the closure of the plant and prevented more than 600 workers to go hungry. This time it is the cleaning workers. We, as labor organizations, took the first step to support them, and are declaring that we will support them to the very end.”
